Suburbs: other funds to Renzo Piano's project

Committed to improving the quality of life in the urban suburbs, the Mayors have found other availability in the government. Another 800 million euros are arriving to bear the weight of restructuring, modernization, equipping spaces and environmental protection. The expenditure for the new design conceived by Renzo Piano rises to 2 billion and 100 million. Its feasibility was linked to what could be obtained from the Government. The undersecretary to the Prime Minister Maria Elena Boschi has assured the Anci that the sums have been allocated. All 124 projects presented are covered by resources from the state budget. Antonio Decaro, president of Anci and mayor of Bari, declares himself satisfied. What happens now? A great operation of social mending, as presented in October by Renzo Piano himself. Gentiloni publicly supported it on several occasions, but there was a limit of only 24 projects to finance. Limit now exceeded and which obliges the municipal administrations to get busy. Above all in coincidence with other urban redevelopment interventions.

It is yet another opportunity to demonstrate that you have the ability to spend to regenerate places that have become marginal, but not without potential. The success of the operation is linked precisely to the revisiting of spaces that can increase the economic value of a community. In the medium term, the projects will act as investment attractors for companies and service agencies.

The theorists of new urbanization all agree on the need to rescue the suburbs from their degradation. Piano has studied the socio-economic characteristics of the Italian ones for a long time, imagining transversal integration interventions. The lines of activity will include public parks, schools, social housing and infrastructure. Anci proposes itself as an observatory and will pay attention to the notices to be published shortly. An information meeting is already planned for the 30th in Rome to illustrate the modalities. Cassa Depositi e Prestiti will also provide assistance through a specific fund for the costs of planning interventions without interest charges or commissions. It will be a challenge to follow.
