Meloni peremptory aut aut to Berlusconi: "Either full loyalty to the EU and NATO or no government"

Other free-wheeling judgments by Silvio Berlusconi on Zelensky and the Western leadership push Meloni to react peremptorily, even questioning the departure of the government

Meloni peremptory aut aut to Berlusconi: "Either full loyalty to the EU and NATO or no government"

Either maximum loyalty to the EU and NATO or no government: the clearer than that prime minister in pectore Giorgia Meloni it couldn't be. It's a real ultimatum just the one launched at Silvio Berlusconi after the ignoble pro-Putin utterances of the Forza Italia leader who either literally went out of his mind or deliberately overturned a tile on Meloni's head which can translate into a sensational boomerang. Meloni was peremptory even at the cost of screwing up her first government, but without full pro-European and Atlanticist loyalty, the government will not take place because "Italy will not be the weak link in the West". There's no debating this: it's the government's watershed.

Meloni puts a point: here or there, no hesitation

Meloni's wing shot, certainly appreciated by the Quirinale, the EU and the US, is a test of courage and leadership which clarifies the framework in which his government can be born but which does not exclude unpredictable outcomes. For example: Tajani, who is certainly pro-European and Atlanticist but who has never questioned Berlusconi's leadership in Forza Italia, may or may not become the new minister of Foreign Affairs or will there be a general reshuffling in the government team being formed? On the other hand, it should never be forgotten that without the votes of Forza Italia or a large part of it Meloni, even with the support of the League and the small group of Lupi, does not have a majority in Parliament. The next few hours promise to be incandescent but the political clarification on the crucial question of Italy's international position could not and cannot be delayed.
