Pensions August 2023: the first personal income tax refunds are on the way. Here is the payment schedule

Highest pensions in August 2023. After the crediting of the increase and related arrears foreseen by the latest Budget Law (some are still pending) - and the fourteenth -, some retirees could find a new welcome surprise next month. In fact, the credit could be triggered reimbursement Personal income tax on pensions, but not for everyone. If from balance should result in a debt, the pensioner will have to expect on the contrary a deduction in the pension in payment next Tuesday 1st August. Inps will take charge of the refund (for those in credit) or the withholding (for those in debt), as a withholding agent.

For some retirees, in addition to the personal income tax refund, the backlog linked to the revaluation of the pension calculated on the basis of last year's inflation trend, 2022.

Irpef reimbursement on pensions: the dates

compared to employees for pensioners, the adjustment operations are carried out with a slight delay: not the month following the one in which the result of the declaration was communicated to the tax authorities, but two months later. So who presented the tax return (exclusively with model 730/2023 indicating INPS as withholding agent) by 31 May he should receive any personal income tax refund as early as August.

However, in some cases the refund payment times may take longer than indicated. In fact, where the Irpef credit should result above 4.000 euros a preliminary check will be carried out by the Revenue Agency and this will require more time for the settlement of the same.

It is always better to proceed as soon as possible with the sending of the declaration, especially if there is a debt to be paid. The law allows for defer payment in several tranches, but everything must be paid by November 2023: the longer it is delayed, therefore, the fewer installments there will be available to defer the payment.

When will pensions be paid in August?

August 2023 pensions will be paid on the first day of the month (August 1 2023) both at the bank and at the post office. Post offices will be available for cash collection, in the usual alphabetical order:

• Tuesday 1st August: surnames from A to C;

• Wednesday August 2: surnames from D to K;

• Thursday August 3: surnames from L to P;

• Friday August 4: surnames from Q to Z.
