Sharp stop by the Prime Minister to the cuts in the highest pensions proposed by the INPS president Tito Boeri according to the minimum income for the over 55s. Renzi argued that there are at least three reasons for rejecting Boeri's proposals on pensions and one on minimum income for the over 55s.
According to the Premier, there is no need to cut pensions at a time when the country is restarting and is regaining new confidence. But most of all the mechanism proposed by Boeri to cut pensions considered higher, according to Renzi, risks containing elements of strong iniquity and also cutting pensions of 2 euros per month to allow those who receive 4 euros a month to leave work sooner. Finally, there are strong risks that the Constitutional Court rejects, as in the past, the pension cuts to only a part of pensioners going to erode rights considered acquired.
As for the minimum income of 500 euros a month, beyond the idea itself, the rejection is due to coverage problems: today the State does not have sufficient resources to support such a measure. The reaction of several parliamentarians was more angry, believing that the INPS president should make the social security institution work at its best but it is not up to him to make reform proposals, which are the responsibility of the Government and Parliament.
