Pensions, quota 100: between Salvini and Boeri there is an open clash

“Departures allowed with a minimum of 38 years of contributions and 62 years of age or by abolishing the life expectancy indexation of the minimum contribution requirements for early retirement (at all ages) lead to a increase of the order of 100 billion in the pension debt destined to weigh on future generations and, already in 2021, to a further increase, beyond the famous hump, of about one point of GDP in pension spending".

Harsh words pronounced today in Parliament by number one of the INPS, Tito Boeri. The message is clear: the 100 quota that the Government has included in the Maneuver will lead to an increase in debt so high as to put "the social security system at risk".

"The institute's work to raise funds from companies and workers to pay existing pensions - Boeri warned again - would be greatly weakened if tax amnesty measures were introduced, which have the dual effect of reducing income and increasing expenditure . The risk then is that of undermine the solidity of our pension system".

Boeri then refers to the declarations of some members of the Government according to which an increase in retirement will lead to an increase in the hiring of young waiting people. According to the president of INPS, even if one is hired for every worker who retires, boys and girls will not benefit from the 100 quota. In fact, a huge pension debt would be a burden on the new generations. “The sacrifices imposed also on young people are heavy, on which the sharp increase in the pension debt also weighs in the future. We cannot, in fact, here avoid launching - he said - an alarm bell regarding the decision to encourage more than 400.000 additional retirements just as the generations of baby boomers are starting to retire and the number of taxpayers tends to dwindle". .

According to Boeri, "it is an operation that increases pension expenditure while significantly reducing social security contributions even if there really was, as the government hoped for, a one-to-one substitution between those who leave and those who enter the Work".

As per tradition by now, Boeri's words have unleashed the government's harsh reaction. After Di Maio, today he is the other deputy prime minister, Matteo Salvini, to ask for the resignation of the INPS president: "As an Italian, I invite Dr. Boeri, who still today defends his beloved Fornero law, to resign from the INPS presidency and to present himself in the next elections asking for the vote to send people into retirement at 80 years old. The more some professors ask me not to touch the Fornero law, the more I am convinced that the right to a pension for hundreds of thousands of Italians (which means the right to work for hundreds of thousands of young people) is one of the greatest merits of this government". Salvini said.

But in the face of the open clash between Salvini and Boeri the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, spoke, both to defend the independent Authorities after the Government's attacks on the Bank of Italy and the Upb in recent days, and to warn the Government itself: "power can make you inebriate"
