Invalidity pensions: Southern Italy doubles the North. News about the social security system

Southern Italy doubles the North on disability pensions. In the South, invalidity pensions account for 22,96% of the total pensions paid in the area, against the 11,36% represented by the invalidity pensions paid in the North. According to data released by the INPS Observatory on 2013 pensions in the South, the ratio is 1,25 million invalidity pensions out of 5,47 million; while in the North the invalidity pensions are less than one million out of the total of 8,77.

Social benefits in the Def
The disparity between social security benefits in the various Italian regions have not gone unnoticed by the Renzi government which, in fact, in the Def has envisaged a reorganization and greater control over social benefits. The Economic and Financial Document, whose approval is expected this evening, will lead to greater transparency on the expenses of local authorities which will be available online and the introduction of standard costs for the Regions.

The Def also anticipates the discussion on pensions which will take place in the framework of the stability law in the autumn. The government has promised an intervention on the social security system and changes to the much hated Fornero law. The Minister of Labor Poletti brought attention once again to pensions, announcing news for "workers close to retirement but without the requisites, not covered by social safety nets, who risk finding themselves in no-man's land".

Flexibility for pensions
The watchword will be “outbound flexibility”. On the table of the government there would be the dossier on pensions, with the development of particular ways out for those who want to bring their pension forward and for the redundant, currently without work or pension allowance. "The INPS - reveals Poletti - is engaged in a work of analysis and in the preparation of possible options that must be effective and economically sustainable".

The INPS proposal
The INPS proposal is also expected in June. President Boeri announced that the Italian social security institution is working on privileged situations, the so-called golden pensions. The INPS proposal could go towards a contribution rebalancing intervention, or a solidarity contribution from pensions plus others towards the groups most in difficulty.
