Pd on the verge of split, Renzi's appeal: the assembly tomorrow

Tomorrow the D-day of the Pd. agreement or split – The secretary launches the last appeal to the minorities: “Don't go away, but no more blackmail” – Renzi calls Emiliano on the phone but the distances remain – Embarrassing outburst from Del Rio who then corrects the shot.

Tomorrow is the day of truth for the Democratic Party: agreement or split. The national assembly convened by the secretary Matteo Renzi to convene the congress in a short time will open tomorrow morning in a climate of great uncertainty and tension. The chances of a rift between the Renzian majority and the minority led by Emiliano, Bersani, Speranza and D'Alema are very high but in politics anything can happen up to the last minute.

To attempt an agreement in extremis Renzi made two moves yesterday: an appeal to the minority and a phone call to Emiliano. “Come to the congress, do not leave. Lock down the division's machines. But I don't accept blackmail: the Congress must be done ”asked Renzi who then called the Governor of Puglia on the phone, who has already run as a candidate for secretary of the Democratic Party if he will stay there. However, it does not seem that the appeal and the phone call have changed the reality of a party on the verge of splitting.

The day before the meeting was enlivened by an unexpected outpouring from the Minister of Infrastructure, Graziano Delrio, considered a very loyal one of the secretary, who confessed all his perplexities about Renzi's attitude who had not called the minority until then and that in his opinion he showed little commitment and little conviction in the possibility of an agreement in extremis for the unity of the party. Then Delrio tried to remedy, arguing that Renzi's appeal had removed any alibi for the split. But now the omelette was done and the own goal as well.

An appeal to avoid rupture was also launched to the entire Democratic Party by the former mayor of Milan and leader of the nascent "Progressive Camp", Giuliano Pisapia: "Avoid the rupture which would be a disaster for the country". Between today and tomorrow yes will see if the latest attempts to avoid the split still have any chance of success.
