Pd, Schlein defends himself after the own goal with the 5S but attacks Renzi on alliances and navigates in the dark

"You can't win alone" Schlein defends himself in front of the Democratic Party leadership after Saturday's boomerang with Grillo and Conte but then stumbles over alliances failing to strike up a dialogue with the Third Pole

Pd, Schlein defends himself after the own goal with the 5S but attacks Renzi on alliances and navigates in the dark

After the criticisms received for participation in the demonstration organized by the 5 Star Movement, the word passes to the Secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein which, during the party leadership try to calm things down and set the record straight: “Now is the time to mobilize the whole party on our agenda for Italy and for Europe. I received a clear mandate, to rebuild a clear identity of the party, which makes us recognizable. If you try to represent everything and its opposite, you risk not representing anyone and leaving space for others”, Schlein in the introductory report to the directorate of the Democratic Party at the Nazarene.

Schlein: "You can't win alone"

"There is a credit line which has allowed us to bring our party, in the polls, from 15 to 21%", said the secretary, then going on to analyze the tough electoral defeat in the last municipal elections: "There was a strong psychodrama surrounding the defeat at the administrative. We don't have a coalition today and we don't win alone, just as we didn't lose by ourselves: let's not attract more demerits than we have", adds Schlein, who adds: "The right has a coalition that regroups and we don't have that coalition today and we do not think we are self-sufficient, we need to build synergies with the other civic and political forces alternative to the right, there are so many issues on which, with the other oppositions, we can join forces, rather than compete on our differences which are also significant. Our three cornerstones are: social justice, work and ecological conversion”.

Schlein then stated the need to find a common ground with the other oppositions: “We ask a young man who has a three-month contract how to live, what are the prospects. Nice choice to increase precariousness, congratulations to Giorgia Meloni and her government. We ask for more hiring, more safety in the workplace, we make a law on representation and we continue to insist in Parliament and outside for a minimum wage. We are working to reach a common position among all the oppositions”.

Schlein then spoke of the alliances: “Next week we will vote in Molise, where we are allied with the M5s. We were even before the event. Do we agree on everything? No. We are far apart on Ukraine. If he invited me calenda I would also go there to a demonstration, but I wouldn't change my mind about the mayor of Italy”. Then a reference to Renzi: “I'm sorry for what he said. He talks about subordination: but he doesn't seem like the right person to do it, given that as soon as he arrived at the Nazarene he invited Berlusconi to make a pact". But the Pact of the Nazarene – maybe Schlein doesn't know it because she wasn't in politics at the time – was only a method, so much so that in 2015 Renzi rejected Berlusconi's unilateral proposals for the Quirinale and, unlike Bersani, managed quickly to bring Sergio Mattarella to the Presidency of the Republic, to which Berlusconi, furious, responded by breaking the Pact for the Nazarene and withdrawing his support for the constitutional reform despite having voted for it 4 times in Parliament.

Schlein on the Pnrr: "It's a burden for the Government"

"I propose a militant summerElly Schlein said. “Now – he added – is the time to mobilize the whole party on our agenda for Italy and Europe. I received a clear mandate, to rebuild a clear identity of the party, which makes us recognizable. If you try to represent everything and its opposite, you risk not representing anyone and leaving room for others”.

"This party - underlined the secretary - is the only one that regularly provides a forum for broad and democratic discussion, let's make good use of it".

Schlein has then hard criticized the Government on the Pnrr: “It is as if this government were experiencing the Pnrr as a burden, almost 200 billion which are an unrepeatable opportunity to modernize the country. Meloni spent the entire electoral campaign saying that the Pnrr needed to be changed, after 9 months he still hasn't said what he wants to change“, said Schlein, who then added: “For months we have been asking the government to report to the Chamber what changes it intends to make to the Pnrr. It's June, wake up. We will monitor everything closely." And he affirms: "from student residences to the principals of legality: the fight against the mafias is in our DNA", so he asks "all our parliamentarians to promote at least one appointment on the Pnrr in our territories, involving the other political forces and economic".

A passage then dedicated to the theme of welfare: “We run the risk of having a paradox, with the first female prime minister cutting the nests from the Pnrr”.

Demonstrations against differentiated autonomy and high rents

The secretary of the Democratic Party then touched on another of the hot topics of the last period: differentiated autonomy which increases territorial inequalities in a country waiting to be mended”. Then the announcement of "a great appointment on 14 and 15 July with the mayors against the differentiated autonomy of Calderoli":

“Alessandro Alfieri and Marco Sarracino are already preparing an agenda,” he says. Also on June 30 there will be a big one demonstration on the house: Majorino is organizing it and in the presence of the mayors to present the ideas of the Democratic Party and to start a "listening campaign and draw the strings in September" to develop a new housing plan. This was announced by Elly Schlein in the Pd Directorate.

“On 6 July we will start a cycle of meetings, we will present our proposals on industrial policies – the dem leader then announced – An open discussion in which we want to involve the social partners, experts, economists, universities, research in order to have solid proposals and to be the constant prod of a government capable only of riding the fear of change without putting forward solutions ”.

Schlein on the internal controversies of the Pd: "The criticisms are good, but loyalty is needed on the issues"

“We all work together, in a choral manner, we need an orchestra that plays the same party. Discussions and criticisms are fine, but so is loyalty on the issues that unite us. You will never have to convince me that the secretary is not enough by itself, I said it from the start. I believe in teamwork, in collective leadership. I have to try to keep you together in the clarity of the political line that emerged from the congress ”, said Pd secretary Elly Schlein in the introductory report to the Pd leadership.

On Ukraine, the secretary confirms military aid

On the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia Elly Schlein reiterates the party's position: “We have always been stati clear and linear in full support to Ukraine for defense also with military aid. We have maintained and will continue to maintain a coherent attitude, but let us not abandon the prospect of a just peace, let us make our own Mattarella's words not to divert the search for a haven for peace. A left-wing force like ours cannot dismiss the word peace".

Attack on the Government on Taxation and appointments

On taxes it is shameful that Meloni talks about state money, it is a disgrace to the underlying ideology. We will continue to fight for fiscal progressivity ”, she said, adding that the Pd agenda“ encompasses a vision of the country, which takes into account the fact that we are in opposition without giving discounts to the Meloni government ”.
Furthermore, according to Schlein "the government with the arrogance of daily forcing abuses the emergency decree, constantly treats the most important appointments, by the subsidiaries of Rai, as their own, with a view to a partisan division".
