Pd, Renzi opens to the left but no abjurations

"With the coalition that we will create, even if it is not as broad as I hope, we are already ahead of the others today". Renzi opens the national direction of the Democratic Party by calling for cohesion and unity, no closure to Mdp - "Berlusconi true rival, M5S overestimated" - "Let's not forget what has been done so far, look to the future to correct the mistakes of the past but without abjuring of the reforms carried out”

Pd, Renzi opens to the left but no abjurations

The national leadership of the Democratic Party is on its way, and is preparing to begin the journey that will lead to the next elections in the spring. The current scenario of the Democratic Party is tormented, between internal disagreements and fears (not made entirely explicit) for the advent of external antagonists. The regional ones in Sicily have done nothing but make the climate within the Democratic Party more tense. The shadows of Grillo and Berlusconi seem to roam the rooms of the Nazarene, and to date they represent a nightmare for the dem.

The secretary Matteo Renzi, who a few weeks ago declared that he had decided to get back on track after the defeat of the Referendum to "restore the country's fortunes", touched on numerous issues during the leadership of the Pd: future alliances, jobs acts and, as always, M5S.

The victory of Musumeci's centre-right in Sicily made Renzi understand, perhaps a little late, the importance of broad alliances. The need, to date, is to put aside the principle of self-sufficiency and the much coveted 40%. "We are at the gates of the electoral campaign and the unified effort that is asked from the outside must be practiced internally first and foremost by those in charge", thus the dem leader opened the party leadership, which has already met with the Radicals of Magi, Emma Bonino and Della Vedova's Forza Europa.

In the next two weeks Renzi will meet Pisapia and his Campo Progressista. The former premier then opened up to an understanding also with the splitters of mdp of Bersani and Speranza: "Let it be clear that we have no preclusion in dealing with them, because we have a sense of responsibility". With the Bersanians, Renzi declared, “the Democratic Party certainly has more points in common than with its historical adversaries. Not only because with Mdp we govern together in 14 regions, but because we have done many things together ".

“Whoever wants to break – continued Renzi – will have to do it in a transparent and clear way because they will not find any shore from us”. As for the centrists: “We must keep the front open with the moderate and centrist wing. They are not to be sucked in by Berlusconi. No foreclosure therefore, without however denying what has been done in recent years: "those who say let's erase the past and speak only of the future, I say that we must forcefully claim what we have done".

Renzi then returned to defend his own jobs act: “It has produced almost 980 jobs, the permanent contract was certainly stronger at the beginning with the tax relief, the incentives worked. Ready to think about how to fight for less precariousness and more permanent work".

The secretary, who obtained 84 votes out of 120 in the National Directorate, also expressed his opinion on the subject of Rights: “It's not like we do it ius only to make the agreement with Mdp. We do it because a right is a right, without exchanging it in a coalition agreement. We will try to do it, without creating any difficulty for the orderly closure of the legislature, respecting what the government and the coalition want to do, we don't think they are issues on which to make an agreement".

The race for Palazzo Chigi has begun. Matteo Renzi's Pd does not start in pole position but in order to overturn the starting situation he will need to broaden the front of alliances. Assuming it's still possible.
