Ebola fear, Exxon stops drilling offshore Liberia

ExxonMobil has decided to postpone drilling off the coast of Liberia due to the dangers associated with the Ebola outbreak. This was announced today in Houston by Rex Tillerson, CEO of the American oil giant. The claim is now expected to test Wall Street's opening.

"We had some drilling projects - the manager specified -, but we will wait to understand when it will be prudent to resume operations, also because part of the work must be carried out on land and our workers must have freedom of movement".

Exxon is active in several West African countries, such as Nigeria, Angola and Equatorial Guinea. The Liberian offshore project is in joint venture (80-20%) with Canadian Overseas Petroleum.

The group is adopting various measures to protect its employees from the risk of contagion. In addition to the disruption of work in the areas most affected by Ebola, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of personnel.
