Patuano: "The others should also invest in the network"

Instead of accusing those who invest in the network of wanting to impose a monopoly, companies should reach out to their wallets to invest in turn. This is the position expressed today in Rome by Marco Patuano, CEO of Telecom Italia, during the conference “The new frontiers of infrastructural development. Technological innovation and international opportunities”.

The value of Telecom's investments “will increase – said the manager – and faced with this fact we are being accused of wanting to go back to being monopolists. Instead of accusing us in the newspapers, I would invite you to put some pennies into it”.

On the sidelines of the same conference, Franco Bassanini, president of Cassa depositi e prestiti, pointed out that a direct investment by CDP in Telecom "has never been taken into consideration: the hypothesis of our entry has never been raised".

As for the possibility that the CDP will buy the share of Metroweb held by F2i (in turn controlled by the Cassa) on which Telecom has presented a letter of interest, Bassanini was short: "Given the state of the law, we cannot do it".

At the beginning of the afternoon, Telecom Italia's share on the Stock Exchange hovers just above parity, a 0,8895 euro.
