Passera: the government will give maximum importance to the energy sector by trying to create jobs

Today Corrado Passera, Minister for Economic Development, made his first speech in the EU Energy Council. "In the allocation of European funds, competitive distortions should not be created between the operators of the various countries".

The former CEO of Intesa then underlined the need to create "a highly competitive internal market that will lead us to lower the cost of energy for households and businesses". In this sense, the Italian government "will give the utmost importance to the energy sector", while maintaining "the objectives of rigor and austerity on the one hand and development and jobs on the other".

Passera intervened in the context of the debate concerning the energy efficiency measures proposed by the European Commission and the selection of the priority list of trans-European infrastructure networks. The minister explained that "the proposals made by the Commission find us in agreement on everything, we appreciate the work done". On the other hand, "the procedures for defining the list of projects, which must be done quickly, taking into account the needs of businesses and citizens" need to be investigated.
