Parmalat-Lactalis, the Government will verify the industrial plan

The reassurance of the Undersecretary for Economic Development Massimo Vari: "A discussion table will be set up with the new French ownership of Parmalat".

Parmalat-Lactalis, the Government will verify the industrial plan

A discussion table with Lactalis, to verify the industrial plan for the Parmalat group, of which the French company has recently acquired the majority. The confirmation of the appointment comes from the undersecretary Massimo Vari, that in the productive activities commission of Montecitorio responds to the concerns of the Democratic Party, expressed in a question by the deputy Carmen Motta.

The Ministry of Economic Development is following the events of the Lactalis company with great attention, assures the undersecretary. In particular, the ministry monitored the situation and held meetings with the unions during the sale of Parmalat to Lactalis, and on that occasion "reserved the right to convene a discussion table with the new owners, who were contacted, also at the urging of the unions, to arrange a meeting with all parties. The meeting with the parties – underlines the government representative – will serve to address the issue of the industrial plan of the new French ownership of Parmalat, to verify its production and employment aspects, also with reference to the use of liquidity”.

Undersecretary Vari's response aims to provide answers to concerns about the future of the Parmalat group. “Compared to the initial announcements, only small productions have been moved to Collecchio and, pending the industrial plan, it is not possible to understand what the other branches of the Lactalis group might be acquired by Parmalat – points out the deputy Motta -. Such a scenario does not exclude redundancies, particularly in the commercial sector; moreover, there is the possibility that Parmalat will choose to abandon the fresh milk segment considered to be unprofitable”.
