Parmalat: Bankitalia unknown on the takeover bid

The success of the Lactalis takeover bid on Parmalat could depend on Bankitalia which is a shareholder with 0,5% of the Collecchio group, ie it owns around 10 million shares. The investment was acquired as part of the ordinary management of Bankitalia's listed share portfolio which tends to replicate the main market indices excluding the banking, insurance, financial services and media sectors. The institute, however, has always been a silent shareholder, never participating in the meetings.

Its presence, however, is indicated in the shareholders' register by punctually collecting the dividends. At the moment it seems difficult to understand how it will behave with regard to the Lactalis takeover bid. What is certain is that she has not yet joined. On the basis of yesterday's latest data, 4 million shares had been contributed to Opa 19, approximately 0,2% of the share capital and therefore a total number of shares lower than Bankitalia's shareholding alone. For the operation to go through, Lactalis must reach at least 2,15% of the capital which would allow it to exceed the 90% which would trigger the delisting.
