Parma FC, chronicle of a death foretold

This time it seems to be really over for Parma. Barring miracles, which won't happen, the deadline set at 14 pm today will sanction the end of Parma Football Club, after both consortiums interested in buying the company withdrew between yesterday evening and this morning.

The 22,5 million sports debt still to be paid is too much, to which the 4,5 million needed to buy the company would have been added. Above all, there were too many risks that this debt would increase over time and too high the chances of having to deal with the lawsuits brought by Parma's many international creditors. Finally, there are too many players under contract, a legacy of the wicked Ghirardi-Leonardi management.

Neither Giuseppe Corrado nor the American Mike Piazza, therefore, will save Parma. Both, as stated in the release of the former US baseball champion, have not "considered sustainable the investments necessary to cover the current and future liabilities of a team whose goodwill has been severely affected”, despite the efforts of the receivership to minimize the debt situation of the club.

Tomorrow, for the new incarnation of Parma Calcio, will be Serie D, the loss of the sporting title and the total dismantling of the player base. The final word on the strong-colored fairy tale (at the end of 2003 Parma also survived the Parmalat crack and, later, two years of controlled administration) of the small provincial team that scared the big European clubs in the 90s.
