Paris Fashion Week, Haute Couture pieces up for auction at Christie's: Chanel, Saint Lauren, Lacroix and McQueen

From 11 to 25 January, for Paris Fashion Week, Christie's will present an online selection of the 115 most beautiful Haute Couture pieces from the VWS Collection – From Beijing to Versailles

Two pieces from this collection have already been sold during The Exceptional Sale, a preview of this high quality collection curated by an art lover. One of them achieved a world record for Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld. Alongside the designers Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld, other great masters of the 900th century will be on display: Christian Lacroix, Christian Dior, Hubert de Givenchy, Jean-Louis Scherrer, Valentino, etc. The collection, made up of pieces dating mainly from the 70s, 80s and 90s, highlights the exceptional know-how, creativity and glory of Haute Couture as some of these creations can be considered true works of art. Collectors and lovers of Haute Couture will be fascinated by the diversity of the pieces featured in this selection, including cocktail dresses, day dresses, evening dresses, embroidered garments, pantsuits or skirts, as well as the exceptional variety of materials , styles and designers.

Tempting estimates, between 400 and 4.000 euros

Estimates will allow everyone to treat themselves to a gift, especially since the 5% of the total proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Musée Arts Décoratifs in Paris, as requested by the family.

The Haute Couture section, with several pieces embroidered in particular by Maison Lesage, recalls the interconnection of cultures and civilizations highlighted in From Beijing to Versailles, the VWS Collection. Starting with the Maison Chanel which, under the direction of Karl Lagerfeld, stands out for a remarkable Hurel purple velvet dress entirely embroidered with “Tudor” motif pearls – cAutumn-Winter 1988-1989 collection (€ 4.000 – € 6.000). The Yves Saint Laurent Fall-Winter 1984-1985 and Jean-Louis Scherrer Fall-Winter 1985-1986 collections present respectively a splendid short jacket in suede and fur embroidered with braids and crystals by Lesage (€ 4.000 – € 6.000), and a magnificent long evening dress in brocade with paisley motifs embellished with embroidery by Vermont (€ 800 – € 1.200).

From Yves Saint Laurent to Chanel

Also, other evening pieces or cocktail dresses, such as a velvet crepe jacket embroidered with sequins, gemstones and crumpled gold leather from 1987-1988 by Yves Saint Laurent (€ 3.000 – € 5.000) or a satin and muslin evening dress with fully embroidered sleeves – Valentino Fall-Winter 1989-1990 collection (€ 800 – € 1.200). Embellished with red satin mouths, the 1979 black velvet suit by Hubert de Givenchy pays tribute to Elsa Schiaparelli (€800 – €1.200). A short Yves Saint Laurent evening dress in iridescent silk and black and white velvet – Fall-Winter 1984-1985 collection (€1.000 – €1.500) – dialogues with a suit Chanel in white grosgrain and black skirt – Spring Summer 1991 Collection (€ 2.000) – € 3.000). The savoir-faire of the Maison Givenchy is particularly highlighted by two garments embroidered in the Lesage workshops: a long evening dress in ivory crepe and black sequin embroidery from the Spring-Summer 1983 collection (€800 – €1.200) and a jacket in white silk gabardine by Abraham embellished with a sumptuous embroidery on the back – Collection Hommage à Bérard Fall-Winter 1984-1985 (€1.000 – €1.500).

From Christian Lacroix to Alexander McQueen

Finally, embroidered evening suits by Christian Lacroix, in particular a skirt suit in cream brocade with wide lapels and organza ribbons – Spring-Summer 1994 collection (€ 800 – € 1.200) – and a long evening suit in orange tweed and wild silk – Spring Summer 1996 collection (€ 1.000 – €1.500). Alexander McQueen with a magnificent coat in almond green satin and black lace from 1997-1998 (€ 1.000 – € 1.500), Yves Saint Laurent with a wrap dress in tricolor Moroccan crêpe – Spring-Summer 1985 collection (€ 800 – € 1.200) – or again Chanel with a long evening dress in organza and Swiss fabric with black and fuchsia polka dots – Spring-Summer 1988 collection (€2.000 – €3.000).
