Paris, Notre Dame burns: spire and roof collapse

A fire that broke out just before 19 pm is burning Notre Dame Cathedral, a symbol of Paris and France and a World Heritage Site, visited by 12 million tourists every year. The fire collapsed the spire and roof with massive damage that will require restoration over the years. "With Notre Dame - declared the French president Emmanuel Macron who canceled his speech to the nation that was scheduled - it burns a part of us" and a part of the history of France, to which all the powerful of the world - from Trump to Merkel – immediately sent expressions of solidarity and help.

To try to put out the flames, 400 firefighters are at work while the sending of Canadairs has been excluded because the water they would pour would risk damaging even more the very fragile structures of the Parisian cathedral.

The Paris Public Prosecutor's Office immediately launched investigations to establish the causes of the appalling fire, which luckily involved neither tourists nor the workers involved in the restoration work who – according to an initial reconstruction – could be the cause of the fire.

It is not the first time that Notre Dame, which was built in the XNUMXth century, has suffered a fire: it also happened during the French Revolution of the XNUMXth century but this time the damage appears particularly serious and it will take years, if not decades, to restore . As Macron said, a part not only of France but of all of us and of the history of humanity is sadly disappearing under the flames.
