Papandreou flies to Berlin to meet Merkel but Schaeuble is cold to everyone: no to EFSF increase

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou is headed to Berlin, where tonight he will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel. There are two days left before the decisive vote by the German Parliament on the European bailout fund and the Greek premier wants to reassure Athens' commitment to comply with the agreements on international aid and to proceed with the established reforms.

If the hope of the Greek government is that of an expansion of the fund, the cold shower arrived for everyone last night. In fact, during a television interview, the German Finance Minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble, clarified without leaving room for doubt that, "we have provided the tools so that (the fund) can act in case of need, then we will use it effectively, but we have no intention of strengthening it”.

Meanwhile, discussions between the countries of the Eurozone continue regarding an increase in the EFSF fund of 440 billion and is still ongoing.
