Pope Francis: "Ior necessary up to a certain point"

During the Mass celebrated in the Domus Santa Marta this morning, the Pontiff spoke of the IOR: “The Church is not an NGO, it is a love story. Bureaucracy and the IOR are necessary up to a certain point but they must not take first place”.

Pope Francis: "Ior necessary up to a certain point"

The IOR is necessary up to a certain point, as is the bureaucracy of the church. Words of Pope Francis, during mass this morning in the Domus Santa Marta: "And when the Church wants to boast of its number and sets up organizations – explained the Pope -, and sets up offices and becomes a bit bureaucratic, the Church loses its main substance and is in danger of turning into an NGO. And the Church is not an NGO. It's a love story … But there are those from the IOR … excuse me, eh! … everything is necessary, the offices are necessary, but they are necessary up to a certain point”.

For the Pontiff, the IOR serves as a support, "as an aid to this love story", but it must not take over because "When the organization takes first place, love comes down and the Church, poor thing, becomes a ong. And that's not the way."
