Pope Benedict XVI lands on Twitter, and the hashtag #ilPapaSuTwitter is already a cult

Joseph Ratzinger makes his debut today on the social network of 140-character tweets: the first tweet is scheduled for December 12, but the network has already gone wild – Here are some comments, mostly ironic or polemical.

Pope Benedict XVI lands on Twitter, and the hashtag #ilPapaSuTwitter is already a cult

"Welcome to the official Twitter page of His Holiness Benedict XVI": this is how the profile reads Pope Ratzinger's Twitter page, inaugurated just today and already a cult (of ironies and insults, to tell the truth…) on the social network of chirps. At 14.50 pm on the day of his debut, the followers of His Holiness ( the name of the official account) are just over 7 thousand, while Benedetto in turn follows only 7 pages, which are actually his own profiles recorded in other languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and even Arabic.

At the moment there are still no tweets from the Pope (the first "release" is scheduled for December 12), but the network has already gone wild with the news of the Pontiff's arrival on the microblogging site. Under the hashtag #the Pope on Twitter, trend topic of the day, you can read of each: “So from today the Pope no longer excommunicates. He unfollows you directly”; “#The Pope on Twitter he will have an icon of the Madonna”; “When a Pope dies, another follows”; “Coming home, you will find the children, give your children a tweet and say: this is the Pope's tweet”; “Incipit tweet nova”; "Dunno, I see it badly! Isn't he shooting the homily in 140 characters??”; "After Balotelli, the pope also subscribes to twitter"; “While you marvel at #The Pope on Twitter, Santa Claus is seriously thinking about joining Ebay staff!”.

These are some of the funniest ones, but there are also those who don't miss the opportunity to throw a dig at the institution of the Church: "Benedict, ok that with twitter you have entered the modern era, but there would still be that little speech on stem cells and euthanasia"; “#the Pope on Twitter it is the demonstration that the church is losing value”; “Even the pope has landed… I was thinking of Syria, to stop the civil war, instead .. on Twitter. Sin".

Meanwhile, the wait is rising for the first twitter of the first tenant of the Vatican: as mentioned, it will take place, according to what was communicated, on December 12th. But knowing the network, Benedict XVI could soon regret it…
