È Qinwen Zheng the champion of the 34th edition of the Palermo Ladies Open. The 20-year-old Chinese, number 26 in the WTA ranking, beat the blue in the final Jasmin Paolini number 5 of the seeding, with the score of 6-4 1-6 6-1 in 2 hours and 16 minutes of play. In her first career title on the WTA circuit, Zheng breaks a double taboo, becoming the first Chinese in history and the first wild card to win the Country tournament. An historic result for the tennis player coached by Wim Fissette who has played a top-level tournament since her debut, ending with a victory in the final against Paolini in a sold-out Central Court.

- Women's Internationals of Palermo o “Palermo Ladies Open” is a tennis tournament that has been played in Palermo since 1988 on the clay courts of the Country Time Club. Back with the 31st edition in 2019, the 2020 edition was the first world tournament staged after the lockdown.

“I am very happy to be able to participate in the Palermo Ladies Open. It's not easy after a grass tournament like Gaiba's to get to play on clay, but if you manage to adapt you can play very well ”, said the tennis player before taking the field Camilla Rosatello, interviewed by Intesa Sanpaolo, Silver Sponsor of the tournament.

Together with her and the finalist Jasmine Paolini, Italian tennis was able to count on one strong representation of athletes: Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Lucia Bronzetti, Martina Trevisan and Sara Errani.

"Palermo it's a special place,” said winner Qinwen Zheng. “This tournament has given me so much, I will always remember it; my first WTA title is special, here I also won my first match on the circuit. Will I go back to Palermo? If I will, it's because I love this tournament very much."
