Paying with facial recognition is possible in Helsinki

Imagine going out shopping and forgetting your cell phone and wallet at home. Wherever you are, you will be forced to surrender. Everywhere, except Helsinki.

The Finnish company Uniqul has just patented and tested an innovative payment system that allows you to pay with a single glance, thanks to facial recognition. Whether you're at a gas station or a mall, instead of pulling out your credit card, you just stare at a camera and wait to be recognized. And in the blink of an eye – it must be said – the payment is made.

The trick is there. Uniqul must have stored your credit card details. Without risking scams – assures the company – thanks to data encryption at the highest levels of security.

The service is about to be launched in the Helsinki area. And if facial recognition doesn't work, fingerprints will do.
