Padoan: "GDP will be negative in the fourth quarter but slow down the fall"

The Italian GDP will continue to fall also in the last quarter of the year. This was stated by Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan. Even if, he says, the fall is declining.

“The fourth quarter will still be negative. However the car is stopping to descend: the comparison with what has been lost is still negative but the descent is slowing down, sooner or later it stops and the ascent begins ”, he added.

Padoan, in an interview at the conference on ICT promoted by Telecom Italia, then showed himself optimistic about the EU's response to the stability law presented by Italy: “I expect that the presence of a qualitatively and quantitatively important budgetary effort will be recognised. I also expect the judgment on Italy to take into account the approved structural reforms such as the jobs act”, added the minister.

“We need to put all the tools in place in a unitary strategy”, he then replied to those who asked what to expect from the EU. “So the judgment on what governments do, not just the Italian one, will increasingly be made not only on the thresholds but on the internal logic of the strategies”.
