Padoan: "We clarified ourselves with Varoufakis, surprises for Italy's growth"

“Italy's macroeconomic framework could reserve some positive surprises”, also thanks to the quantitative easing launched by the European Central Bank. Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan said today, emphasizing that "it is time to speed up the reforms".

According to the head of the Treasury, who arrived in Istanbul this morning for the G20, Italy has a "large" but manageable debt, also given the economic recovery picture. And “the Italian debt is not on the table,” Padoan clarified afterwards the comments of the Greek counterpart, Yanis Varoufakis, who on Saturday compared Italy's debt situation to that of Greece.

“We clarified ourselves with my colleague Varoufakis – added the Italian minister -, there was an exchange of messages. Now the goal is to find a shared solution for Greece starting with the Eurogroup”.

In once again ruling out the possibility of contagion from Athens, Padoan claimed "strongly the fact that Italy has put growth, employment and investment at the top of the European agenda" and Greece too "can only benefit from it".
