Oscar 2023 without any special twists. It was just there night of Everything Everywhere at Once.

The Movie of daniel kwan e Daniel Schenert, reward yourself as best directors, swept the Oscars 2023 with 7 statuettes out of 11 nominations. In addition to directing, the Oscars came in the best picture category, Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh), best original screenplay, Best Supporting Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis), Best Supporting Actor (Ke Huy Quan) e best editing. Never in the history of the Academy had two Asian actors won in the same year.

Everything Everywhere all at Once tells the story of Evelyn, played by Michelle Yeoh, and her husband Waymond, played by Ke Huy Quan, a Chinese-American couple who work in their own laundromat. Evelyn at some point will find herself talking about her with a version of her husband from an alternate universe.

Oscar 2023: the winners

Oscars 2023: the losers

The big let down of the night was Martin McDonagh's The Spirits of the Isle who many considered the super favourite. Along with Elvis, The Fabelmans, and Tar, he walked out of the ceremony empty-handed despite amassing 30 nominations between them.

The two blockbusters that brought spectators back to theaters were also below expectations. Avatar- The way of water e Top Gun: Maverick: James Cameron's film settles for the award best visual effects while Tom Cruise's wins the prize of best sound.

Great disappointment also for Rihanna and Lady Gaga (who largely redeems herself by singing on stage) for the title of best soundtrack with the award going to Rahul Sipligunj, Kaala Bhairava & MM Keeravani with Naatu Naatu (RRR). It is the first time in this category for an Indian song.

No statuettes this year for Italy. Alice Rohrwacher's Le Pupille was beaten by An Irish Goodbye while Aldo Signoretti failed to win in the Make-up and Hairstyles category.

No Zelensky speech, Navalny documentary wins

Again this year, the Academy tried not to politicize the ceremony. Best makeup and hairstyle: Adrien Morot, Judy Chin and Anne Marie Bradley for The Whale.

Best Original Song: Naatu Naatu – RRR.

Best soundtrack: Volker Bertelmann for All Quiet on the Western Front.

Best Special Effects: Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon and Daniel Barrett for Avatar – The Water Way.

Best sound: Mark Weingarten, James H. Mather, Al Nelson, Chris Burdon and Mark Taylor for Top Gun: Maverick.

Best documentary: Navalny.

Best animated short film: The child, the mole, the fox and the horse.

Best Documentary Short: Raghu, the little elephant.

Best short film: An Irish Goodbye.
