Trenitalia summer timetable: the challenge to planes and ferries begins with discounted prices and greater comfort

Lower prices, greater comfort, more connections not only for fast trains, but also for regional and intercity, with the different ways of understanding the journey at the center, offering integrated tickets that add the train to all other means of transport, from the plane to the ferry to the buses with on-board services ranging from catering to 'entertainment.

It is on these bases that Luigi Corradi, managing director of Trenitalia, focusing on the image of a child and therefore of the new generations, presented the new summer schedule that will start on June 12th.

“With the launch of the Trenitalia-Summer Experiences 2022 our goal is to enhance and encourage the choice of the train also by combining it effectively with other means of transport”, said Corradi, pointing out that “Trenitalia also has the role of head of the 'passenger hub' of the FS Group”.

Super discounted prices, in contrast with flights and ferries

Many packages and tickets offered until 15 September to cross the length and breadth of Italy or to go abroad, very advantageous combinations for families, groups, children from a single day to a weekend or for longer.

“Faced with an increase in the prices of flights of over 15% on average and of ferries of 20%, we have decided to reduce prices by an average of 10%. compared to the Covid period. Furthermore, the journey is free for children up to 15 years of age”, Trenitalia said. For arrows then they are provided discounts up to 60% and even 70% for Saturday alone” says Corradi.

Trenitalia summer timetable: stops are growing, especially towards the sea

During the summer they will be over 240 Frecce that will circulate every day, with several stops dedicated to summer tourism, to ensure increasingly widespread connections. More connections and stops also for i 124 intercity “day and night” traveling on the national territory. They also increase during the summer months, connections and stops for the 6.800 regional buses, with confirmation of Line connections to reach thousands of Italian locations by train and Link (train+bus or train+ship). More trains and connections to and from abroad, an increase compared to the pre-Covid period, with Frecciarossa Milan-Paris and Paris-Lyon, and with Eurocity and Euronight for Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

Trenitalia summer timetable: new impetus for Italian tourism

“One of the missions of the 'Polo Passeggeri' – added Corradi – is to boost the development of Italian tourism, with frequent and capillary connections through the integration of the Group companies involved in the transport of passengers by rail and road, with offers and promotions dedicated to those who choose the convenience of public transport to reach their holiday destinations, while also safeguarding the environment.

“The novelties of the summer are many, summarized in one word: intermodality”Corradi said during the press conference. “We are trying to find all those solutions that offer a complete service to those who want to go on holiday by train. Not just the train, but also everything around it, such as buses, taxis, car sharing, ships and ferries. Now you can buy the integrated ticket that takes you to Capri or the Aeolian Islands. In Venice, an integrated ticket is available which allows you to take the train, bus and vaporetto”.

Improve the connection with the airports, a single check-in soon

It also improves thebike access with over 20 seats a day on Trenitalia trains, as it is being increased the integration between Trenitalia and Fiumicino (to be expanded later also a Malpensa) and testing a service that will allow you to carry out the check-in passengers and luggage directly at the departure railway station.

Finally, Corradi points out the success of the Milan-Paris connection. “The Milan-Paris high-speed connection has proved to be an extraordinary success with a occupancy rate of 80% which is higher than the average we have in Italy. This success confirms that the right path is that of Europe – said Corradi – and in November we will start with connections Frecciarossa on Madrid and Barcelona. We are also speaking with the railway groups of Germany and Austria to offer a tav service in collaboration also in those countries".
