Operating systems for mobile phones, Microsoft grows above all in Italy

Microsoft has succeeded in the miracle. It has ousted the trendiest and most revolutionary operating system in the mobile segment. He has torn apart all the clichés about him and has conquered an important slice of the market in a sector in which expert competition has left very little space.

According to the data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, mobile phones with Windows on board, the so-called "Windows Phone” are, in Italy, more widespread (13,9%) than iPhone fashionistas and the market is still waiting for the “Lumia 630 Dual Sim” and the new models with Windows Phone 8.1.

The Microsoft phenomenon has even aroused the colossus Nokia, until a few years ago the uncontested leader in mobile phone sales and today decided to put aside even its own name to make way for that of Windows to brand all its mobile phone models.

Apple , for its part, has tried to regain positions with a new smartphone (iPhone 5S) which gave results in Japan (+8,6%), Spain (+4,5%), Great Britain (+3,4%), France (+2,2%), but not in Italy, where the its market share went from 19,9% to the current 12,9% in one year.

A European level, according to Kantar Worldpanel, is Android to dominate the smartphone market. The distance from the competitors is almost embarrassing. These are sales that have exceeded 70% of terminals with the Google operating system. Less and less encouraging data instead for BlackBerry which continues to chase its competitors from far away and is forced to deal with start-ups and prototypes that give a hard time to its tested work terminals.

Dominic Sunnebo, head of research for Kantar, says that with the Lumia 520 Nokia has managed to aggressively penetrate the low-end market, as it has managed to capture the attention of wallet-conscious consumers. “Now, we're starting to see some really compelling competition in this market segment,” she added.
