Open Fiber continues with the advance from the fiber optic network into Sicilia. The company has communicated that work has started in Alcamo for the new telecommunications network entirely in optical fiber. In fact, an agreement has been stipulated – the result of the agreement with the Municipality – which regulates the intervention financed by Open Fiber in the city. The company led by the CEO Mario Rossetti has planned an investment of 4 million euros for the cabling of approximately 15 thousand real estate units.
To conclude the agreement the mayor Domenico Surdi together with representatives of Open Fiber Clara Distefano (regional manager Sicily), Dorothea Lo Greco (South Area Institutional Affairs) e Christian Daniel (field manager and responsible for the cabling works in the city).
The comments of the mayor and councilor: important intervention for the benefit of the city
The signing of the agreement was jointly commented by mayor di Alcamo Domenico Surdi and by 'investment advisor and public works Mario Viviano: “This is an important intervention for the digitization of the city. To benefit from this technological opportunity, it will bring Alcamo at the same level as the main Italian cities, will be families, businesses and the public administration itself”. The Mayor continues: "The digitization process of the municipality therefore continues, thus we will strengthen the interconnection network between the offices, guaranteeing greater productivity and naturally, we will supervise the correct execution of the excavations, on which, in the agreement, the method of restoring the road surface”.
Open Fiber advances with optical fiber in Alcamo: the project
The project outlined for Alcamo, precisely to limit the impact and any inconvenience for the community as much as possible, provides for an extensive reuse of existing infrastructures, explains Open Fiber. The excavations are carried out favoring innovative methodologies such as the use of minitrench: roadside excavation, long 10 cm e 35 to 50 cm deepis filled together with the laying of the cables with pink cement mortar. After at least 30 days from this temporary restoration, the technical time necessary for the material to settle, the intervention is defined with the scarification of the roadway concerned and the hot laying of the asphalt. Each phase is coordinated between Open Fiber and the competent municipal offices.
The new infrastructure - extended for about 60 km thanks to 8 km of cables in optical fiber – will be made in modality FTTH (Fiber To The Home, i.e. the fiber right into the home), "the only technological solution capable of returning connection speeds of up to 10 Gigabits per second and latency of less than 5 milliseconds" concludes the company's press release.
