Open Fiber wins the FTTH Council Europe Operator Award 2018

Open Fiber was awarded the FTTH Council Europe Operator Award 2018, the recognition given to those who have shown a particular commitment in Europe to the development, support and dissemination of an FTTH network (Fiber To The Home, the optical fiber that reaches at users' homes).

The FTTH Council Europe Operator Award 2018 was collected by Open Fiber CEO Elisabetta Ripa in Valencia, Spain, during the FTTH Conference, the annual event organized by the FTTH Council Europe. The FTTH Council Europe Individual Award, individual recognition, was instead awarded to Matthew Hare, CEO of Gigaclear, for his efforts in the cabling of rural areas of the United Kingdom.

Open Fiber received the award for the contribution that the company has made for the rapid development of a fiber optic network up to users' homes in Italy. “As a young and dynamic company, acting as an innovator on the Italian market by investing heavily in FTTH, Open Fiber was an obvious choice for this award” explained Ronan Kelly, president of FTTH Council Europe.

“Digital evolution has a profound effect not only on the way we work and communicate, but also on many other aspects of our daily life” Elisabetta Ripa underlined. “The development of high-capacity FTTH networks and 5G networks are key elements towards building the Gigabit society. Open Fiber is a wholesale-only operator: this model significantly reduces the critical issues in the sector, thanks to the construction from scratch of an FTTH infrastructure that is able to accommodate future developments in technology and which allows TLC operators to offer innovative services to customers ”.

The FTTH Council Europe is a European business organization with over 150 members today, founded with the aim of accelerating the deployment of fiber optic connectivity and the development of a digital society in Europe. The Council promotes FTTH as a connection method capable of enabling a series of innovative services to improve the quality of life of people and the environment, as well as promoting economic competitiveness. The FTTH Conference is an annual event organized by the FTTH Council Europe. Since 2004 it has been the largest and most important event in the world for anyone interested in accessing fiber optic networks in Fiber To The Home mode. More than three thousand people took part in the latest editions, hosted in various European cities.
