Open Fiber wins the 2018 award for Jumbo-lending

The joint Enel-Cdp company was awarded the Telecomms Deal of the Year 2018 by PFI magazine for having obtained the largest financing in the EMEA area. The company is moving forward with the work plan for the construction of the fiber optic network in Italy

Open Fiber received the award Telecomms Deal of the Year 2018 awarded by the magazine PFI (Project Finance International) for having obtained, last August, 3,5 billion euros for the construction of an entirely optical fiber network in Italy in FTTH (Fibre To The Home).

PFI magazine recognized it as the largest funding in the area emea (Europe, Middle East and Africa) aimed at building the new telecommunications infrastructure.

Between July and August 2018, the financing operation obtained the support of a pool of commercial banks - including European Investment Bank, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, BNP Paribas, Société Générale, UniCredit, Banca IMI, Banco BPM, Crédit Agricole CIB, Banco Santander, MUFG Bank, ING Bank, MPS Capital Services Banca per le Imprese, National Westminster Bank, UBI Banca and CaixaBank – as well as the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Satisfaction with the recognition obtained was expressed by the director of administration, finance and control of Open Fiber Mario Rossetti. "It confirms - he said - the attention of the world of finance for the Open Fiber plan, which aims to connect over 20 million real estate units in Italy with the most modern fiber optic technology".

Open Fiber already in February 2018, won theFTTH Council Europe Operator Award 2018. The prize was awarded for efforts in the development and dissemination of the FTTH network. The FFTH Conference is the annual event organized by FTTH Council Europe, an organization born with the aim of accelerating the diffusion of fiber optic connectivity and the development of a digital society

Open Fiber is growing fast: in 2018 it wired over 5 million homes. The latest city where the works have been started is Reggio Calabria: thanks to a direct investment of 13 million, 900 kilometers of fiber will be laid throughout the city, the works will last 18 months.
