Open Fiber: the works for the ultra-fast network in the Lecce area have been completed

Open Fiber, the company that deals with the construction of the FTTH fiber infrastructure controlled by Cassa depositi e prestiti (Cdp), continues its project to digitize the territory. The company has completed the construction of the network infrastructure which offers citizens, businesses and professionals of the Lecce area high-performance Internet access. The main focus was placed on less populated areas and without ultra-fast connectivity.

The new public ultra-broadband telecommunications network is now operational in Gagliano del Capo.

Fiber coverage in Ftth

The new ultra-fast network available in Gagliano del Capo will cover 172 real estate units thanks to FTTH (Fiber-to-the-home) technology, which provides for the extension of the optical fiber inside buildings and will guarantee a network capable of providing download connection speeds equal to or greater than 300 Mbit/s.

Digitize the territory

The installation of the ultra-fast network in Gagliano del Capo is a strategic investment for the digitization of the territory, financed through regional and state funds under the Piano Ultra Broadband (BUL), managed by Infratel Italia with the coordination of the Puglia Region. This investment does not weigh on the municipal budget. The laying of the fiber was carried out with limited impact thanks to the use of innovative and sustainable excavation techniques, which allow Open Fiber to reuse the existing infrastructure.

The company already has connected over 14,5 million real estate units in Italy to its new ultra-broadband network e aims to cover approximately 25 million real estate units, equal to 94% of Italian municipalities.

“Thanks to the FTTH network and the Open Fiber cabling project, Gagliano del Capo is equipped with an ultra-broadband network capable of delivering ever-increasing volumes of data traffic, allowing for quick and enabling use of connections for smart working, streaming of content in HD, online purchases and access to remote services of the Public Administration”, he explains Gabriel Moncullo, field manager of Open Fiber.
