The company led by Elisabetta Ripa is the first in Italy and among the first in Europe to provide the fiber optic service at speeds 100 times 100 Mbps.

Open Fiber ever faster: 10 Gigabits per second

Open Fiber is launching the new commercial offer of the broadband access service available on the entire national network for its operator customers XGS-PON (10Giga symmetrical), with which it is possible to reach an access speed of up to 10 Gbps, or 100 times 100 Mbps. The new service involves the use of Open Fiber's FTTH access infrastructure, which is the most extensive in the country, to bring a connection with very high performance both downstream and upstream to Italian homes .

The first field trial of the service dates back to over two years ago, when the company successfully tested this new technology on its Milan network. For its introduction, no intervention on the passive network was necessary but simply an update of the terminal at the customer and of the electronics in the Open Fiber exchange already natively set up for starting the service. To support such a high performance access network, Open Fiber – which is the third operator in Europe for FTTH coverage – has developed and put into operation a transmission backbone which is technologically the most advanced in the country. Proof of this is the achievement last year of 800 Gbps per optical channel.

“Once again – he underlines Simone Bonannini, Open Fiber Marketing and Commercial Director – Open Fiber confirms itself as a technological champion capable of responding to and anticipating the needs of the ultra-broadband market, of citizens, businesses and the public administration, for the development of the country and for technological innovation. The scalability of the networks built entirely in optical fiber is the real strength of our commercial proposal. The 10Gigabit/s service is another milestone that adds to the many already achieved by the company and allows us to open up new scenarios, guaranteeing Italy a place among the most technologically advanced countries in the European and world scenario”.
