Open Fiber also brings fiber optics to Belluno

The fiber optic network arrives in Belluno. Once the design phase has been completed, the Open Fiber construction sites will start next March for the laying of a new fiber optic network of approximately 160 kilometers in Belluno, the capital of the Veneto region. The goal of the company led by Elisabetta Ripa is to connect by 2022 up to 16 thousand real estate units of the city to ultra-broadband, for a total investment of around 5 million euros.

The installed network will be the latest generation one, that is in FTTH (Fiber To The Home) mode, the only one capable of returning a connection speed of up to 1 Gigabit per second and latency of less than 5 milliseconds.

The agreement signed last year by Open Fiber with the municipality of Belluno also establishes the methods of excavation and restoration for the laying of the optical fiber, as required by the ministerial decree of 2013.

More than 80% of the development plan will be implemented through the reuse of existing cable ducts and underground or overhead networks, while the excavations will be carried out favoring innovative and low environmental impact methods, such as the "microtrench". As part of the agreement, Open Fiber has undertaken to reach 30 buildings of public interest with ultra-fast fiber: not only houses and condominiums, therefore, but also schools, offices and public administration structures.

To complete the infrastructure work, the companies they work for Open Fiberonce the interventions on the road have been completed, parallel to the progress of the plan in the streets of the city, they need to proceed with the wiring of the condominiums by accessing the common rooms of the buildings (cellars, basement), where a small device will be positioned which will serve to connect the individual homes that will request the service in the future.

These are free interventions, not very invasive and for which access to private properties is not foreseen. For this reason, the representatives of the operational teams will contact the condominium administrators from time to time so as to agree on the methods of access to the buildings.

"Fast and reliable connections are increasingly becoming indispensable for the world of work and school, as well as for leisure - said the mayor of Belluno, Jacopo Massaro – the recent rankings on the quality of life demonstrate it, where broadband network coverage becomes a positive development factor, and unfortunately the health emergency we are experiencing has demonstrated it ".

“Smart working, distance learning, telemedicine, online streaming in 4K, are just some of the services enabled by this infrastructure by virtue of a very high browsing speed, a stable connection and a very low latency which avoids delays in data transmission . With this investment, we are still implementing our ongoing development plan in Veneto which, in black areas alone, is already worth over 190 million euros", he stressed. Marco Martucci, Head of Network & Operations Area North East Open Fiber.
