Open Fiber: fewer bureaucratic obstacles to speed up the fiber network

During the Business Tech Forum, focused on the restart of the Italian system, the need to invest in technological evolution emerged in order to guarantee everyone the same conditions. But to do this, a simplification of the regulatory and organizational processes is necessary: this is what the CEO of Open Fiber, Elisabetta Ripa, highlighted.

Open Fiber: fewer bureaucratic obstacles to speed up the fiber network

With the pandemic, some problems concerning our country have been highlighted: such as the greater need to have a high capacity network able to equip all citizens with the same "weapons" to be able to work even remotely.

This was one of the topics illustrated during the opening virtual round table of the Business Tech Forum promoted by Il Sole 24 Ore.

In the debate - moderated by the Director of Il Sole 24 Ore Fabio Tamburini - it emerged that not only must the country be equipped with a digital infrastructure capable of achieving and guaranteeing adequate services for all households, businesses and local PAs, but also streamline the bureaucratic process which slows down its implementation.

An assumption that goes well with Open Fiber's mission: build a fiber optic network throughout the country, on the one hand with private investments in large cities and on the other with the use of public resources in the so-called "white areas".

Open Fiber has updated its industrial plan by expanding its coverage objectives to build the network Italy needs. To do this, OF is now waiting for the Boards of Directors of Enel and CdP, both of its shareholders, to conclude the procedure for approving the capital increase which will define the exact amount of the intervention.

This intervention will focus on expanding coverage in gray areas, on acceleration in the areas of intervention and on the launch of new services linked to connectivity.

It was the Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Stefano Buffagni, during the conversation, who underlined the need to simplify the bureaucracy for all those activities considered strategic for our country, through a system of self-certifications.

In addition to Stefano Buffagni and Elisabetta Ripa, Fabio Spoletini, Oracle Italy Country Manager, Carlo Tamburi, Enel Italia Director and, finally, Massimiliano Giansanti, President of Confagricoltura, attended the meeting.

“We look to the future with confidence – he underlined Elisabetta Ripa, CEO of Open Fiber – and the forthcoming government actions to find solutions that make it easier for a faster roll-out of what is one of the most important works for Italy. Open Fiber is making an effort to expand the perimeter of its plan and have the flexibility necessary to guarantee the right of access to a latest generation internet network".
