Open Fiber: ultra-fast optical fiber is now available in the province of Pisa

The province of Pisa is taking an important step towards the digital future thanks to the availability of ultra-fast optical fiber provided by Open Fiber. After the complete deployment in the big cities, finally even the small villages of Lajatico and Palaia will be able to enjoy the advantages of the FTTH connection (Fiber to the home), with the optical fiber that enters directly into homes, companies, schools and public offices.

What is the project?

Thanks to the project implemented by Open Fiber in the so-called "white areas", identified by the Infratel tenders with the economic support of the Tuscany Region, the aim was to bridging the digital divide, allowing thousands of citizens and businesses to access ultra-broadband.

Il new infrastructure project it extends for over 51 kilometers and currently connects 2309 families between Lajatico and Palaia. This service is already active and ready for activation, through a publicly owned network managed by Open Fiber under concession for the next 20 years. In Palaia, the areas of Soianella, Soiana, Chientina, Stibbiolo, Morrona, Terricciola, Casanova, La Rosa and Selvatelle are already connected, while in Lajatico the fractions involved are La Sterza, Lajatico, Orciatico and San Giovanni.

A step forward for a digital future

The regional councilor for digital infrastructures, Stefano Ciuoffo, comments on the importance of the connection operation which is involving more and more Tuscan territory through ultra-broadband. In collaboration with Infratel and Open Fiber, the project focuses particularly on the infrastructure of small municipalities not connected so far, offering cutting-edge services to enhance market competitiveness and attract new investments.

Marco Gasparini, Regional Manager of Open Fiber Toscana, expresses his satisfaction with the extension of the ultra-broadband network, which brings these two important Tuscan municipalities to the level of the major European capitals, significantly contributing to reduce the digital divide.

The mayors of Lajatico and Palaia, Alessio Barbafieri and Marco Ghelardini, show enthusiasm for the ultra-fast fiber optic service, which represents a fundamental development element for commercial activities, study, teaching and the general well-being of local communities.
