Open Fiber and EOLO: new agreement to reduce the digital divide

Fiber optic binding of 1.000 EOLO FWA sites. This is the objective of the extension of the collaboration between the company led by Elisabetta Ripa and EOLO – an Italian company operating in the fixed wireless ultra-broadband sector – which intends to connect almost all of its network within the next 2 years.

Open Fiber's ultrabroadband network currently counts over 11 million connected real estate units, with services already active in 180 large cities and around 2.000 municipalities in the White Areas. The OF's overall plan puts in place over 7 billion euros of resources and provides for the coverage of about 20 million real estate units in the country with the aim of bridging the digital divide and making digital services available to all citizens with the high performance that only a latest generation infrastructure can guarantee.

Currently, the FWA EOLO operator reaches over 6.500 municipalities in Italy and aims to complete its coverage of the country by the end of 2021. The investment plan of 150 million euros launched by the company in May 2020 through which EOLO aims to connect 7.500 municipalities, creating a network that allows reaching up to 100 Mb/s for home users and 1 Gb/s for businesses.

“We are very satisfied with the extension of our partnership with EOLO – he commented Elisabetta Ripa, CEO of Open Fiber -. More than 100 national and international operators have chosen our open, neutral and entirely fiber optic network to offer their customers advanced connectivity services, in line with technological evolution. Our effort, as an infrastructural operator, goes in the direction of maximum collaboration with all fixed and mobile operators to bridge - really and as soon as possible - the digital divide in the country".

"The increasingly extensive use of optical fiber to connect our antennas allows us to further improve the performance and quality of the services offered to our customers throughout Italy - he commented Luca Spada, President and founder of EOLO -. The right to a quality connection for everyone has always been at the heart of our corporate mission and agreements such as today's one bring us closer to achieving the ambitious goal announced less than a year ago: completing the ultra-broadband coverage of 7.500 municipalities in Italy".
