Open Fiber and Ultranet renew the agreement on ultra-fast fibre

Open Fiber and Ultranet have announced the renewal of their collaboration on fultra-fast ibra, focusing on developing synergies in the use of existing network infrastructures, in support of the “Italy with 1 Giga” plan created with Pnrr funds.

The details of the agreement between Open Fiber and Ultranet

“The agreement will allow us to accelerate the availability of the ultra-fast network in the territories (FTTH, Fiber to the Home ed.), allowing rapid interventions to reduce the digital divide and facilitate access to essential and indispensable services", the two companies say in a note, underlining that the agreement on the reuse of existing infrastructures is part of a broader collaboration plan which will allow Open Fiber to further accelerate the development of the network built entirely in optical fiber, in particular in the most difficult to reach areas of the country.

Nicola Grassi, Director of Technology at Open Fiber, commented: “Open Fiber's primary objective is to create a network infrastructure capable of bringing ultra-fast connectivity to Italian homes, companies and public administration offices. For this reason we are always attentive to possible virtuous collaborations, which create value for the actors involved and guarantee citizens that they can be reached as soon as possible by FTTH and therefore by advanced digital services, which only this technology makes possible".

Giulia Sangiovanni, coo of Ultranet, recalls that: “Ultranet has a network of over 12000 km of cables and cable ducts and provides dark fiber infrastructure with a widespread presence in over 20% of the Italian population and aims to increase its presence in the next three years up to reach over 20 million Italian citizens. The Ultranet network already connects metropolitan areas, industrial districts, islands and coastal ridges (Tyrrhenian and Adriatic)". Ultranet, adds Giulia Sangiovanni, “has developed proprietary software focused on the Data Collection & Analysis of Industrial Districts, the primary driver of the Italian industrial system. Ultranet aims to cover, by the end of 2027, over 1.500 industrial districts throughout Italy with fiber optic infrastructure (FTTO).
