Open Fiber e Namex, one of the main internet exchange points in Italy and the Mediterranean, have announced a new collaboration to enhance theEdge interconnection between network operators. The agreement aims to improve network infrastructure nationwide, focusing on the edge of the network (Edge Networking).
Edge Interconnection refers to the practice of directly connecting various peripheral network nodes, rather than passing through the main data exchange centers. This approach allows you to reduce latency, improve quality of service and manage traffic more efficiently.
The details of the agreement
Presented today in Naples during the annual Namex event, the initiative will allow Internet Service Providers (Italian and international ISPs) to access a widespread interconnection infrastructure, optimizing data traffic between different network operators. The project is part of the Namex Enabled Site service, which aims to create regional interconnection points using Pops (Point of Presence) of Open Fiber spread across the territory.
The service will focus on Edge interconnection between ISPs, creating IXP Edge points in Open Fiber Pops to facilitate more efficient communication between operators. This will lead to a reduction in latency and an improvement in the quality of service, with a more widespread and balanced distribution of digital content, such as live streaming and edge cloud.
