Open Fiber and Eolo: agreement to improve ultra broadband connectivity services in white areas

A new agreement has been signed between the two companies for the use of the Eolo fixed wireless network: the objectives of the agreement

Open Fiber and Eolo: agreement to improve ultra broadband connectivity services in white areas

A further step towards the development of ultra broadband in Italy. Aeolus, a company that deals with the supply of ultra broadband connectivity through FWA technology, e Open Fiber, the main FTTH network infrastructure operator in Italy and Europe, have signed a agreement for the coverage of White Areas with ultra-broadband connectivity services in FWA mode, Fixed Wireless Access, i.e. the set of transmission systems developed to exploit certain frequencies of the radio spectrum in order to provide broadband Internet connectivity services.

The objectives of the agreement between Open Fiber and Eolo

The agreement extends the collaboration already started in 2019 through the marketing of Eolo of FTTH services on the Open Fiber network, followed in 2021 by the agreement for the fiber optic connection of the Eolo towers in white areas by Open Fiber.

“For Open Fiber, the agreement is part of the acceleration plans of internal area coverage project of the country, as it will be able to use the infrastructures available in 300 Eolo Base Radio Stations to facilitate the connection in FWA of rural areas”, the company said in a statement.

Furthermore, the agreement is part of the broader framework of investments for the development of ultra-broadband underway in Italy, in line with the government's digital strategy and with the need to share infrastructure in the electronic communications market.

"We are very pleased to have concluded this agreement with Open Fiber, driven by the common goal of meeting the country's connectivity needs and facilitating the achievement of the objectives set at government level, thanks to a synergistic approach that avoids duplication of infrastructure" he says Guido Garrone, CEO of the Network Division of Eolo. "In full coherence with the investments and guidelines that are guiding the creation of the so-called ultra-fast networks, the agreement between the two companies - continues Garrone - represents a factor in accelerating the digital transition and confirms the leading role that Eolo and FWA technology will also be able to have in the future, thanks to the evolution in 5G-NR standard, as an indispensable complement to the fiber up to homes, for widespread coverage of the national territory, quickly and efficiently".

"The collaboration started with Eolo adds another piece to the acceleration of the coverage plan for the White Areas of the country, the small municipalities where Open Fiber is bringing ultra-fast connectivity in FTTH fiber or with FWA in rural and hard-to-reach areas", he underlines Mario Rossetti, CEO of Open Fiber. “The digitization policies adopted in our country have indicated clear and even more challenging objectives to be achieved than those contained in the EU Digital Compass. Italy, also and above all thanks to the entry of Open Fiber on the market and the constant development of its huge investment plan, is climbing positions in the connectivity segment. The goal is that no citizen is left behind in terms of access to digital services, whether they live in a big city, in a mountain village or in an industrial area. For this reason, the coverage of white areas has a prevalent social dimension for Open Fiber".
