Open Fiber, the company that deals with the construction of the FTTH fiber infrastructure controlled by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (Cdp), on the occasion of its participation in the Anci Annual Meeting, took stock of the situation with the mayors of Italian municipalities regarding its plans for infrastructural development in cities, small villages and industrial areas.
Open Fiber: the Bul plan continues
Open Fiber is the public concessionaire that covers the FTTH technology the so-called “white areas”, remote and less populated areas subject to BUL plan. At the end of September, the company completed the 78% of the infrastructure and completed the work in 74% of the municipalities involved (over 4600 out of approximately 6200), providing optical fiber to approximately 5 million housing units.
As part of the BUL Plan, Open Fiber will extend FTTH fiber optic coverage to over 6000 municipalities who had previously limited access to digital services due to their low profitability for operators.
Last year, Open Fiber has obtained 8 lots in 9 regions of the Italy 1 Giga Plan, a government project to bring forward the Gigabit connectivity objectives set by Europe to 2026 through the Digital Compass.
Open Fiber: special brand of the Anci Assembly
Open Fiber participates in the Anci Assembly as a special brand and offers its stand as a meeting point for local administrators interested in receiving information on the development of the fiber optic network in their municipalities. A way to discuss activities, methods and processing times, as well as the possibilities of stipulating agreements and the new regulations in force.
During the event, in collaboration with Tim and Inwit, Open Fiber has organized a workshop to discuss the "Italy 1 Giga Plan" and the operational agreements between municipalities and operators in order to accelerate the PNRR projects and simplify administrative procedures.
25 October, workshop on the Italy 1 Giga Plan
the meeting, scheduled for October 25th at 10am, will allow local administrators to obtain detailed information on the Italy 1 Giga Plan and on Agreement stipulated between the operators involved in the digital development plans financed by the Pnrr (Italy 1 Giga and Italy 5G) and Anci, the Department for Digital Transformation and Infratel Italia. This agreement will regulate the operational agreements between operators and municipalities to simplify the process of creating infrastructure at a local level, helping to guarantee rapid implementation of projects and bring Gigabit connectivity across the country by 2026.
THEAnnual Meeting of the ANCi takes place 24 from October to 26 at the Genoa Fair and involves the mayors of all Italian municipalities, as well as representatives of institutions and businesses. The event, organized by Anci Comunicare, has the theme “Three colors on the heart. Mayors unite Italy” and is now in its 40th edition.
