Open Fiber accelerates with fiber in San Lazzaro (Bologna)

Open Fiber has opened the marketing of ultra-fast fiber services for the first 3300 houses of San Lazzaro di Savena, in the hinterland of Bologna. In the Emilia municipality, the company led by Elisabetta Ripa is investing around 4 million euros to connect 11 homes to ultra-broadband: work continues and will bring connections of up to 1 Gibit/second to everyone.

“Open Fiber is cabling San Lazzaro di Savena through approx 6mila kilometers of fiber optic cables in mode FTTH (Fiber To The Homefiber to the house) – explains a press release in which OF announces the start of marketing in the Municipality – thanks to a total investment of over 4 million euros".

The project that the company owned by Enel and Cdp Equity is carrying out in the Bologna area envisages a total investment of approximately 12 million euros to connect with the ultra-fast network, in addition to San Lazzaro di Savena, too Casalecchio di Reno, Castel Maggiore and Castenaso. In these municipalities, the marketing of Open Fiber fiber services is already open, and citizens can contact one of the partner operators to enter into a commercial contract. 

Being an area with a strong agricultural but also industrial and tourist vocation, the new fiber laid by OF pushes industry 4.0 and allows services such as the Internet of Things, e-health, cloud computing, online streaming of HD content, access to advanced Public Administration services, Smart City applications such as sustainable mobility, electronic control of accesses, environmental monitoring, public lighting management and digitization of tourism services. Open Fiber only sells wholesale (ie to telephone operators). VodafoneWind Tre e Tiscali they are the partner companies that are the first to market services on the Open Fiber network for the municipality of San Lazzaro di Savena, but other operators are expected to arrive in the coming months.
