Open Fiber: the "Italia 1 Giga Plan" is underway in Lombardy for the ultra-fast network

Open Fiber started the "Italy Plan 1 Giga"In Lombardia. The first Open Fiber construction sites have started as part of the digitization project financed with funds from the PNRR to wire areas not covered by at least one network capable of providing download connection speeds equal to or greater than 300 Mbit/s. In total, 1.132 Lombard Municipalities are included in the project: the wholesale operator was awarded a total of 8 lots out of 15 lots, put out to tender by Infratel Italia, for a total of 3.881 Municipalities in 9 Regions for a total coverage of 3,9 million house numbers by 2026.

In Lombardy, work has already started on the first ones 10 Lombard cities. The Municipalities are: Arese, Cesano Maderno, Corsico, Crema, Cusano Milanino, Limbiate, Offanengo, Paderno Dugnano, Rozzano, San Giuliano Milanese. For a total of around 3.500 house numbers that will be connected to the ultra-broadband network. In addition, 2 other construction sites will soon be opened in the cities of Basiglio and Varese which will affect further street numbers.

1 Giga Italy Plan: From the Lombardy Region an additional 193 million euros for optical fiber

The Lombardy Region has made itself available, as happened for the 2014-2020 Community Planning now in its final phase, to give its contribution for the implementation of the "Italy 1 Giga" plan and, starting from the new year, information and discussion moments will be organized with the Municipalities affected by the plan and with the Bodies that will have to issue the authorisations/concessions.

Lombardy Region, Terzi: "I expect a close and fruitful collaboration"

“Continue the collaboration between Lombardy Region-General Directorate for Infrastructure, Transport and Sustainable Mobility and Open Fiber which will lead to investing a further 193 million in our territory in addition to the 303 million of the 2014-2020 Community Programming whose work will be completed by 2023 - he underlined Claudia Terzi, Regional Councilor for Transport Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility -. I expect a close and fruitful collaboration also for the next few years, as was the previous one albeit with some difficulties. In fact, with the new Italia 1 Giga project, I hope that the works will be carried out with the utmost care and maximum commitment on the part of everyone in the supply chain. The Lombardy Region has also made itself available to call the Conferences of Services to facilitate the administrative process at the end of which it is possible to start work, thus helping to bring Lombardy to the connection levels of Europe”.

Open fiber, Visconti: "An infrastructure that enables innovative digital services"

“Il "Italy Plan at 1 Giga" constitutes a further element of the industrial plan of Open Fiber aimed at equipping the country with a latest generation fiber optic network – he declared Paul Visconti, Head of Network & Operations North West Area –. An infrastructure that enables all the innovative digital services of today and tomorrow: from telemedicine to smart working, from electronic access control to environmental monitoring and public lighting management. Without forgetting that optical fiber is also of fundamental importance in terms of eco-sustainability and energy saving. To implement such an ambitious project, collaboration with the local administrations and the Regions is essential in the interest of the citizens and businesses of the area according to the model that we are implementing with the Lombardy Region".
