UN in Gaza: immediate ceasefire

The United Nations is asking Israel and Hamas for "an immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire" - Obama telephones Netanyahu - Israel has rejected the truce proposal put forward by US Secretary of State John Kerry.

UN in Gaza: immediate ceasefire

“An immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire”. This was requested by the UN Security Council, at the end of an urgent meeting of the 15 member countries in New York, urging Israel and Hamas to "fully apply" the truce and asking for "full respect for international humanitarian law, in particular for regarding the protection of civilians".

Then the President of the United States Barack Obama himself also took the field. Indeed, Obama reiterated, in practice, the UN's requests for an immediate ceasefire during a telephone call with Israeli premier Benyamin Netanyahu.

In relations between Israel and the United States, historical allies, more than a few cracks are starting to appear: moreover, yesterday the Israeli government had once again rejected the proposal of the US secretary of state John Kerry for the truce, confirming, instead, its adherence to Egyptian mediation, defined as "the only one possible".
