“In Verdi – writes the author – the conception of music as a measure of drama is so deeply rooted that he probes as deeply as possible the prerogatives of musical language to exploit all its dramaturgical values. Studies on some of his masterpieces, Macbeth, Luisa Miller, Stiffelio, I Vespri siciliani, Simone Boccanegra, Aida, reveal Verdi's genius in exploiting the dramatic potential of music through the multiplication and superimposition of the places of the scenic action”.
