With 43 companies awarded with the Three Leaves, the highest recognition of the Gambero Rosso Guide for Oils of Italy, the Tuscany confirms the Italian region with the largest concentration of extra virgin olive oil of quality even if the past year had to record a decrease of about 40% compared to the last oil campaign, going from 20 to just over 12 tons. In Puglia is in a very solid position with 42 awards to which we owe the merit of having driven the production recovery of the Peninsula with over 160 thousand tons, even if the +38% compared to the last disappointing year did not satisfy the producers. Sicily is placed third but at many distances which with 40 thousand tons recorded a significant increase of 30% compared to the 2020/2021 vintage and which brings home 20 awards, confirming itself as one of the most important olive-growing regions in Europe with ample room for expansion on the Italian and foreign markets.
Altogether they are 482 companies are present in the Guide of Gambero Rosso Oils with 861 extra virgin olive oils of the highest quality of which 217 awarded with the Three Leaves and 271 with the Two Red Leaves, i.e. labels that are on the verge of perfection.
26 special prizes assigned by the judges of the Guide e 29 companies have received La Stella, the symbol assigned to manufacturers awarded with the Three Leaves for 10 years
This year's novelty was the presentation to the press and sector operators of the "Community of extra virgin olive oil", designed and created to network producers, food and wine operators, enthusiasts and consumers to stimulate them to a direct and constant between them. An important step, to increase awareness and knowledge, open up new market prospects, focus more and more on the quality of the productions, in the footsteps of what has already been done by the world of wine. During the event the Gambero Rosso Extra Virgin Olive Oil Tour was also presented, a tour of Italy of the best extra virgin olive oils. Throughout the month of May, thanks to the involvement of the Gambero Rosso Academy, a series of initiatives and appointments will enhance the best labels of the Italian age in Turin, Milan, Rome, Naples, Lecce and Palermo. Furthermore, in each of the 6 cities it will be possible to taste and discover the protagonists of this exclusive tour in wine bars, delicatessens, bars, restaurants and pizzerias.

“In publishing the 12th edition of the «Oli d'Italia» guide, we were pleased to see the ever-increasing price adjustments for top quality oils, despite the difficulties of the period.” Declares Paolo Cuccia, President of Gambero Rosso. “This is undoubtedly due to the skill of the farmers and we are satisfied to contribute with our publication and our initiatives to the growth of margins of these excellent companies and to the necessary push on foreign markets and on the Italian one.”
"Our commitment continues to support producers who with great skill enhance the products of our land, transforming them into recognized and recognizable excellence all over the world" continues the CEO Luigi Salerno "As Gambero Rosso we are able to create value and connection between producers, trade, consumers and protagonists on a national and global scale: a large community like that of the extra virgin olive oil presented today.”
