Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 at Fico Eataly World in Bologna in absolute preview during Frantoi in festa all the awards of the Guide to Extra Virgin Olive Oils of Slow Food Italy which will be published in April. The Guide, the result of a collective work of numerous experts and enthusiasts who have explored every corner of the peninsula to draw a map of the best 2018 olive production, envisages two types of awards: the "Grande Olio", prize awarded to the extra virgin olive oil that stood out for its particular qualities from an organoleptic point of view and because it well reflects the territory and cultivar; and the prize “Grande Olio Slow” which adds recognition of the sustainable agronomic practices applied. And as usual Tuscany and Umbria they get the most awards.
Slow Food Italy's goal with this guide is to help the consumer choose the best oil from the shelves of the supermarket or the shop near the house. The companies awarded by the guide will be present, together with some millers, in a special market set up at Fico Eataly World where it is also possible to participate in the educational tastings of the Oil bar to take the first steps in tasting the typical varieties of some areas of Italy. In particular, on Sunday 17 at 11 in the Fico Foundation room, the presentation of the 2019 Guide to Extra Virgin Olive Oils will take place with the awarding of best oils reviewed, over 120 despite a difficult year in many regions.
