Today October 4th is National Day of Families at the Museum

After the success of the 2014 edition which saw the adhesion of 590 exhibition sites and the participation of around 50.000 people, the NATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES AT THE MUSEUM is back again this year.

Today October 4th is National Day of Families at the Museum

A day in which you can visit museums in Italy in a special way with the whole family. Sunday October 4, on the occasion of F@Mu 2015 | Let's feed on Culture to Grow, the National Day of Families at the Museumthroughout the country, museums, foundations and other exhibition venues will open up to families with educational visits, themed games, special initiatives and activities designed especially for the occasion.

The National Day of Families at the Museum is organized in collaboration and with the patronage of the main municipal administrations. The event this year also received the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MiBACT), the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, EXPO MILAN 2015, the Unesco World Heritage Italian Heritage Association, ICOM (International Council of Museums) Italy and the Italian Touring Club. The events that will take place in the exhibition venues of Milan will be included in the schedule of EXPO IN CITTA' events.

Every year F@Mu is centered on a different leitmotif. In line with EXPO MILAN 2015 | LET'S FEED THE PLANET ENERGY FOR LIFE, this year the theme is LET'S FEED ON CULTURE TO GROW. The method of joining is free for each museum structure: some museums will offer free admission, others will organize workshops and special activities especially for families.

F@Mu is a project of the Kids Art Tourism (KAT) portal, the first and only website in Italy dedicated exclusively to museum, artistic and scientific teaching proposals that public or private structures (museums, foundations, institutions, tour operators) offer to families with children.

“Setting up this day was an important step – explains Elisa Rosa, founder of the internet portal www.kidsarttourism.com and Artistic Director of F@Mu 2015 – because as it is written in the Convention on the Rights of the Child of the United Nations, Article 31, “States Parties respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and encourage the organisation, [...] of artistic and cultural activities”

Also this year F@Mu was created in partnership with Artkids, for years engaged in educational projects and in the creation of editorial products that help children to meet art and great artists. It is edited by Artkids and illustrated by Sabrina Ferrero aka Burabacio, the “Museum Explorer's Notebook”: a precious booklet designed to accompany the experience of young visitors to the museum in a playful and exciting way. Games, activities and many useful tips for visiting the exhibition venue and getting closer to the works of art will accompany the children on their exploratory journey.

The notebook, printed in 30.000 copies and delivered free of charge to the F@Mu 2015 Museums, will be distributed to all families during the day of the event and can also be used on other occasions as a memento of a day spent at the museum.

Promoted byFamily Association at the Museum and organized by industry professionals, F@Mu 2015 makes use of the collaboration of BURABACIO for the graphics of the materials, ViDi for the press office, WAYPRESS Srl for media monitoring; this year the Italian Touring Club is also supporting the initiative while TNT ITALIA confirms itself as OFFICIAL COURIER also for this edition. Matì and Dadà, the two protagonists of the cartoon L'Arte con Matì e Dadà – the first RAI cartoon to deal with art for children – are once again this year's Official Testimonials of the event. Some episodes of the series co-produced by Achtoons and Rai Fiction will be screened in the museums participating in the event.

RAI has also selected the RAI NEWS 24 channel as the initiative's official media partner. Logistics by BUIC VIP, surveys and data processing by Centro Studi Santagata of Turin, webhosting and assistance provided by ERGONET.

For the second consecutive year, also the weekly Mickey mouse enthusiastically joined the F@Mu with a workshop created ad hoc for the occasion which will take place at the Triennale di Milano and which will invite readers to go to the museum also with their grandparents.

Attached is the list of museums participating in the initiative.
