OCTO relies on Big Data to fight against Covid

Social distancing and sanitization are keywords in the fight against the Coronavirus. OCTO – an Italian multinational in the supply of intelligent technological solutions – announces the launch of 2 new solutions designed to guarantee greater safety for citizens and, at the same time, speed up the return to normalcy.

The first solution simplifies the maintenance of social distancing between people, both in public and private spaces, based on OCTO's SmartTag technology. Furthermore, OCTO Around Me uses the latest Bluetooth standards, the OCTO Cloud IoT and an application compatible with IOS and Android smartphones to monitor the distance and verify that it is always equal to or greater than 2 meters.

The operation of OCTO AroundMe is very simple. The pocket SmartTag, delivered, for example, to visitors to a shopping center or to company employees, continuously monitors the distance between individuals. If someone gets too close, an audible signal from the app warns of the need to restore the safety distance.

Since it stores information relating to income and expenses anonymously, OCTO AroundMe also allows you to verify that the number of people present never exceeds the established limits. Furthermore, it is possible to map the places where it is possible to violate the safety distance, allowing interventions on the routes and helping people to respect the rules of social distancing. The solution collects information even in the absence of the app.

Instead the second solution, OCTO PurePlace, was created to encourage the safe use of shared cars. It is a nanotechnology, developed by NASA to eliminate, through a sanitizer, any virus, bacteria or fungus, as well as odors and volatile organic compounds in the air and on surfaces.

Sanitization, totally non-invasive and safe for peopletakes place through intermittent self-activation of the sanitizer installed on board the vehicle and at the end of each journey. In addition to the OCTO Purifier device, the OCTO PurePlace solution consists of an on-board telematics device which analyzes all the information received from an IOS and Android compatible app, so as to check the sanitation status of the vehicle.

The event is captured anonymously and stored in the cloud for analysis, so as to better understand the events and mitigate the risk that the event could repeat itself in the future.

Big Data, machine learning and other technologies, in addition to allowing the creation of models capable of predicting the evolution of the spread of pandemics, they allow for the rapid and effective analysis of enormous quantities of data which represent a valid aid in the fight against the virus and an aid in containing the spread.

“The new normal needs innovative solutions enabled by intelligent technology, which complement the rules of distancing, hygiene and projection of self and others, helping us to respect these rules and making us feel safer” – he commented Nicola Veratelli, CEO of OCTO Group.

“OCTO has the knowledge, the experience, the people, the ability to collect, analyze and process data – continued Veratelli – It was a categorical imperative for us to make all our technologies available and leverage OCTO's assets in the field of Big Data, IoT, solutions for insurance companies and intelligent mobility, creating new products that we hope will help build and improve the new normality to which we are already quickly getting used to”.
