OECD: "Italy last in public spending on education"

Italy brings up the rear among the developed countries in terms of public spending on education, public spending that stands at 4,7% of GDP against an OECD average of 5,8%. This was revealed by the OECD report "Education at a Glance" 2012, which reports how, between 2000 and 2009, State spending compared to total public spending fell to 9% (from 9,8%), marking a growth in real terms of 4% (compared to an OECD average of 33%).

The annual expenditure per student, in OECD countries, is on average 9.249 dollars, while in Italy it is 9.055 dollars. The Italian contradiction, then, is that of one of the highest expenses for nursery and elementary school, compared to one decidedly below average university spending: 9.561 dollars against 13.719.

National spending on education in Italy grew by 2000% per year between 2009 and 4,9, thanks above all to private investment. According to the OECD report, theAnother task that the Italian school must propose is that relating to the integration of immigrant students, the number of which is continuously and exponentially growing. Above all, one thing is striking in this discussion, namely the lack of uniformity in the distribution of students of foreign origin, 71,9%, of whom are concentrated in a quarter of Italian schools.
