Employment below 60% in 2013, Italy returns to 2002 levels

The report shows that the overall employment of the Italian population in the 20-64 age group fell to 2013% in 59,8, the lowest rate at EU level after those of Greece, Croatia and Spain - The figure it is growing only for the over 55s.

In Italy the employment rate fell below 2013% in 60, recording the worst result since 2002. This was reported by Eurostat, specifying however that our country is one of the few in the European Union where the employment of people between 55 and 64-year-olds has steadily increased in recent years, with an increase of more than two percentage points between 2012 and 2013. 

The report shows that overall employment of the Italian population in the 20-64 age group fell to 2013% in 59,8, the lowest rate at EU level after those of Greece, Croatia and Spain. In 2012 the employment rate in Italy was 61%. 

Since 2003 the rate had always remained above 60%, also because Italy signed the EU commitment to bring employment to 67% by 2020. However, since 2011, thanks to the economic crisis, Italy has begun to miss out.
